Summer Camps in Grand Rapids 
through Ferris State University
Week long camps held on the campus of GRCC.  Get at taste of what it is like to be a computer animator or a game designer.  Explore the world of DNA and genetics.  Get a taste of one or all three and see if you're cut out for a career in software engineering, digital animation, game design or molecular diagnostics.  And have a blast while you do!

Competitive Scholarship Programs:
Students are selected for scholarship programs on a competitive basis.  To apply, visit www.syp.mtu.edu and complete the application form for the program you are interested in.  Submit your app along with a teacher recommendation, unofficial transcript, and your responses to short essay questions.  Apps will be reviewed by their selection committee in April; you will be notified of their decision in mid-May.  Programs have varying deadlines; please verify application due dates listed beneath each program title on the website.

The Engineering Scholars Program will be held on the campus of Michigan Tech each summer. This is an opportunity for students traditionally underrepresented in Engineering and Science All selected participants receive a scholarship valued at over $1,000, which covers all tuition, classroom supplies, and room and board.

Aquatic Ecology and Fisheries Science
July 12 - 17, 2015
Entering Grades 9-12
Develop skills in capturing, identifying, and comparing the animal communities, from insects to fish, that live in our local streams, lakes, and rivers.  You will gain experience using basic aquatic ecology research techniques and equipment, including nets, traps, seines, and water quality meters.  Learn the basics of fisheries science: set fyke nets and minnow traps,
practice fish identification, learn to tag fish and predict population
size with faculty from the LSSU Aquatic Research Laboratory.
$650 to live on campus; $350 commute to campus

Chemistry and Environmental Science
July 12 - 17, 2015
Entering Grades 9-12
This camp will highlight a different field of chemistry each day; hands-on learning in inorganic, organic, environmental, analytical, and general chemistry. Students will be able to learn and differentiate the different fields of chemistry. With a variety of different lab activities planned, students will be introduced to lab safety and chemical properties.
$650 to live on campus; $350 commute to campus

Criminal Justice
July 12 - 17, 2015
Entering Grades 9-12
Learn about forensic photography with identification, collection of
evidence, finger printing and other evidence processing.  Explore the ballistics and firearms used in law enforcement, experience real-life scenario weapon simulators, participate in accident investigation and reconstruction, homeland security field trips, and self-defense for law enforcement officers.

Dance
July 12 - 17, 2015
Entering Grades 9-12
Our instructors will help each dancer hone their skills in Ballet/Pointe and concentrate on their strength and flexibility. The modern dance emphasis will be on kinesthetic movement, emotion based movement, and applied in floor and partner work.    Sessions in choreography will be included.  Students should bring as many dance shoes as they have: ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, etc.  We will wrap up the week with a final performance at the LSSU Fine Arts Center.

Leadership Camp
July 12 - 17, 2015
Entering Grades 9-12
The LSSU Leadership camp experience empowers students to develop and foster the skills needed to become successful leaders not only at their school but also in their personal lives.  Through a combination of self-reflection, team building, and guided activities students analyze their strengths and how these positive attributes can be used to turn their weaknesses into strengths.  

Utilizing the concepts discussed in "Fish! A Proven Way to Boost Morale and Improve Results"
 and "You Don't Need a Title to Be a Leader," students self-reflect and discuss their personal stories within the group. Students will design a personal mission statement that they utilize to develop short and long term goals for their future.

Biomedical Science
July 19 - 24, 2015
Entering Grades 9-12
Learn and experiment in the state of the art science labs at LSSU.  Labs will include dissections in the anatomy lab, experiments in the physiology lab, and DNA extraction in the genetics lab. This is an excellent camp for all who are interested in science, medicine, and health.

Fire Science
July 19 - 24, 2015
Entering Grades 9-12
You will learn academic and basic hands-on training in vehicle extrication, search and rescue, water evolutions, rapid intervention team training, ventilation, and forcible entry.

Forensic Science

Entering Grades 9-12
Learn how to collect evidence and conduct forensic laboratory analyses in our state of the art laboratories.   You will be a CSI and investigate your own mock crime scene.  Instructors will also demonstrate different crime solving strategies.

Outdoor Adventures
July 19 - 24, 2015
Entering Grades 7, 8, and 9
Explore the beautiful Eastern Upper Peninsula while participating in outdoor adventures.  Your days will be spent canoeing, hiking, rappelling, and developing outdoor survival skills with Dr. Sally Childs, LSSU Parks and Recreation Faculty.

Our photography campers will learn the dynamics of their cameras, lighting effects, and gain proficient understanding on aperture and shutter settings.  Students will experience the beautiful sights and opportunities that Michigan's Upper Peninsula has to offer!  Enjoy waterfalls, wildlife, and unique photojournalism events to perfect your skills!
