Parents: Help your child(ren) maximize their homework

Here are some basic ways in which you can help your child with homework: (Better Homes & Garden, Sept 2011)
The set up: desk, table, make it private w/ limited distractions
Designate time: be consistent, same time every time
Lead by example: during homework time, everyone should be doing something studious
Set realistic goals: know your child's limitations & strengths, all A's might not be realistic
The practice: study habits include: reading, highlighting, taking notes
Teach time management: help them pace
Prohibit Multitasking: no facebook, tv, or phone during homework time
Meet physical needs first: use bathroom, get snack, drink before sitting down for homework time
Give positive reinforcement: stay calm and patient
Reinforce why learning is important: keep explanations simple
~will increase options and opportunities when you succeed!
